Surveys

Whether you are investing in a new digital two way radio system, migrating from a legacy analogue solution or upgrading first generation digital.

We treat each new opportunity with a clean sheet, therefore going back to basics no matter the situation or circumstances.

Our initial consultations will be an information gathering exercise to define your exacting requirements, when we have built a picture of those needs we will begin to think about a suitable solution.

Following the information gathering exercise we will organise a suitable and mutually convenient date to carry out a coverage and installation survey.

You will no doubt already have an expectation regarding the physical coverage the radio system might offer.  This expectation you have from our experience will either be based on an existing system, pure perception, information obtained online or consultation with one of our competitors.

Coverage Survey

This is where we ascertain the operational area or the physical coverage the radio system will offer you.  When conducting such a survey it’s vitally important to include operational staff so that we can be sure we’ve taken into consideration every nook, cranny, basement, plant room, riser, office or outbuilding.

At this point we will require a site map, plan or drawing of the said site, this will allow us to plot signal readings during our surveying process so that this can be reviewed and shared with our clients.  This is also very useful for future proofing purposes should changes to the operational areas occur at a later stage.

When carrying out a coverage survey we will utilise an RSSi reader (radio signal strength indicator), these readings have 5 strength categories and are as follows:

  • Exceptional signal
  • Strong signal
  • Normal signal
  • Weak signal
  • Poor/fringe signal

Having plotted these signal readings onto the site map, plan or drawings we will now review the findings and if need be look at any additional infrastructure such as repeaters or additional aerials to give the desired audio coverage.

If we identify that additional equipment is indeed required we carry out the process again replicating any required infrastructure.

Installation Survey

When we have successfully identified the equipment needs to offer the desired coverage we then turn our attention and focus to the installation.

Here we are looking at suitable locations to house the equipment, dependant on the size and capacity of the system, equipment may need to be housed in a cabinet, wall mounted enclosure or indeed be located into the clients existing storage solutions.

We will also at this stage be identifying any hazards, potential health and safety risks plus locating and arranging power, cable trays and equipment ventilation needs.

All of these items will be documented in a comprehensive project folder upon completion of each installation, the folder will include but not be limited to schematic drawings, coverage survey plotting, product literature and guide, OFCOM licences and maintenance documentation.
